Did You Know?

Did you know that coffee has a lot of great health benefits?  Over the years of reading about coffee (news articles, medical studies, etc…), we’ve learned of a lot of ways that coffee is really great for you!   The main idea is: coffee is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients and when consumed black could be one of the best things in your diet (unless you only eat foods loaded with antioxidants).

The antioxidants in coffee help your skin and prevent wrinkles and could also help protect from heart disease and premature aging.  Coffee is also believed to reduce the risk of Parkinson’s, some cancers and Type 2 Diabetes.  Drinking coffee can also help counter the affects of alcohol on your liver, preventing alcohol related liver disease and protecting against liver cancer. 

Caffeine is the only legal stimulant in athletics, and coffee is known to enhance physical performance and boost workouts.  Caffeine is also believed to stimulate fat burn in your body, so drinking coffee about thirty minutes before a workout could help you lose weight faster.  It also has mental benefits.  It is said that coffee helps you learn and work better, and some studies even show that drinking coffee can reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Of course, to really take advantage of the potential health benefits of coffee, you need to make sure your coffee consumption is healthy.  A cup of black coffee only contains about 2 calories, but once you add sugar and cream, the calorie count of your cup could go all the way up to 500!  The good news is, 2-4 cups of coffee a day isn’t harmful and, in some cases, is recommended to take advantage of the great health benefits.  Feel free to drink plenty of coffee every day!  Just be careful with all the things you can add to it.

So, if you’re looking for a New Years Resolution that could have great benefits for your health- why not try drinking more coffee?  Or resolve to learn to drink your coffee black this year.   With all these positive affects coffee can have, we don’t think you’ll regret it!  Happy New Years!!
