Quick Intro to Composting

Composting is easy and a fabulous way to improve your soil quality! At Little River Roasting, we are big fans and are thankful to Atlas Organics and our customers who rotate picking up coffee grounds for their own compost piles. We not only compost the grounds, but our bags are compostable too! (just throw away the tin tie, first.)

YouTube has tons of helpful videos filled with tips. Here is a 3 minute video that we found to get you started:

Gervais composts at home and has had great success. He doesn’t even follow all the “rules”; his composter is made of chicken wire, he puts meat scraps in the pile,(so far, no strange critters have shown up)  he doesn’t turn the pile on a regular basis and he doesn’t even have the exact parts of “brown” and “green” waste, but his compost is beautiful!

Of course, you can buy a fancy counter top container for scraps, but Gervais keeps a plain plastic bucket on his kitchen counter and all their food scraps, napkins, coffee grounds, egg shells, ashes, and more go into the bucket. He dumps it on the pile whenever the bucket is full. He adds grass clippings, leaves, and shredded paper.

Composting is terrific for your yard and great for sending less to the landfill. It’s easy! Give it a try! Or, if you’re in the Upstate of South Carolina, contact Atlas Organics and let them take care of it for you!
